- In this course, students are introduced to additional Visual Basic capabilities that provide for the development of business-oriented applications. The student will develop a Multiple Document Interface (MDI) application that performs sequential file I/O and uses Windows common dialogs for opening and saving files as well as setting printer options. The student will learn how to add error-handling code within Visual Basic procedures. Relational Database access using the Visual Basic data control will also be introduced, while taking a look at the Visual Data Manager. Students then learn in detail the Data Access Object (DAO) hierarchy that provides the background for the development of sophisticated relational database applications. During this section the control-based methods and object programming methods for data will be covered. Students will discuss Remote Data Objects (RDO) before applying their knowledge to Active Data Objects (ADO). A short discussion of structured query language (SQL) and how to combine SQL with Visual Basic controls will also be covered.
