- Graphics make a strong statement about your site and knowing how to get the best images and making them small enough to download quickly is what this course is all about. You will learn the basics of Photoshop so you are comfortable editing pictures for your Web site and creating your own images to enhance your design.
- Selection Tools
- In the world of bitmap images selecting part of an image is not as easy as just clicking on it. Photoshop provides a variety of tools like the lassos, marquees, and magic wand to help you select just the right item. Students will have hands on experience learning which tool to use and how.
- Layers and Effects
- Would you like to take a picture of a waterskier and place him in a corn field? Well you could if you used layers and masks in photoshop. Placing images on multiple layers allows you treat each image separately and stack them in any order. How about fading the corn field image into an image of popcorn? With photoshop effects you will learn the many ways available to alter your graphic files.
- Painting Tools
- Sometimes just scanning photos and converting them to JPEGs isn't enough. You need to create you own stuff - self expression, right? Photoshop has a range of painting tools that allow you to draw with a pencil, paint with a brush, create a gradient sky, or texture anything.
- Choosing the Right File Format
- All this art looks great, but the files are huge! We need small graphic files to download quickly. How do I get great looks and fast downloads? Students will learn the difference between the various image file formats like GIF, JPEG, PNG, PSD, and TIFF and when to use which format. Special attention will be paid to converting files to GIFs and JPEGs and all the options available to make those files as small as possible while still retaining impressive looks.
- Image Ready - the new companion
- Adobe has added a companion product to Photoshop called Image Ready. This application integrates web animation effects seamlessly into the graphic world of Photoshop. This class will explore various techniques for "slicing" images and creating mouse rollover effects.
- Putting It All Together
- While this is a Photoshop class, our ultimate goal is always to end up with Web pages. Each student will take the graphic files he created and put them in an HTML page. Some files will be converted to the GIF format with a transparent background. This effect is only realised when you see the image on an HTML page with a colored background showing through.
