- Knowing how to create a web page does not necessarily mean that you can create an effective web site. This course focuses on the step-by-step process of creating an effective web site. You will learn design principles and look at examples of both good and bad design. The class project will be to create and publish a complete web site.
- One Step at a Time
- Staring at a blank screen and trying to create a brilliant web site is very difficult. We will teach you a process that you can use to identify the main purpose of your site and build content that will support that purpose.
- What Did You Say.com?
- Learn the importance of chosing an appropriate URL and how to tell if the one you want is already taken. Discuss your options in the likely event that you can not get all the names you want.
- Guess My Link
- One major topic in good web design is navigation. How will your users get from one page to the next? Will they be able to find the topics they are interested in quickly? Creating a logical and useable site navigation is like deciding where to place your products in a large department store.
- Color Me Confused
- Effective use of color is one of the most important elements of good design whether you are creating a web page or a company brochure. In this course we will look at several examples of sites that make effective use of color. You will also learn that using restraint when adding color is often the best plan. Web sites that assist in choosing colors that go together well will be visited.
- Content is King
- No matter how well you dress it up, a site with no useful information is still a waste of time and sure to never be visited again. This course helps a web designer determine just what information should be included and what should be left out. Again, sites with great content will be visited and discussed.
- What Tools Should I Use?
- This course has many prerequisites, but it does not require that you use one particular program to create your site. You can use FrontPage, Notepad, or anything in between that you already feel comfortable with. This course does not teach the technical side of web site creation, like our other courses do, but instead covers the nuts and bolts of what to do to actually create a great web site.
