Course Description

 
As the first of several courses in the database curriculum, this class covers the fundamental concepts in database technology, including storage structures, access methods, recovery, concurrency and integrity. Different kinds of database systems will be compared and the relational model and its implementation will be covered in depth together with an overview of SQL and its role in application development. The course will also present an overview of database administration, including modeling and design activities. This class is intended for information systems professionals who need an overview of database technology or want a solid foundation for more extensive course work.
