- Macromedia Fireworks is more than just an image editing software program. It was written specifically for Web development and therefore has many useful shortcuts to commonly needed graphic tasks, like image rollovers, image hotspots, animation, pop-up menus, and creating dynamic buttons.
- Fireworks Basics
- If you are new to graphic design, you may be overwhelmed by the look of image editing software. Students will first use hands on examples to learn the many tools of Fireworks, like the many panels and the graphics tools.
- Learn to Draw Smooth Vector Graphics
- Have you ever created a shape in a simple graphics program like Paintbrush and then resized it just to discover that it the edges look very chunky? That is a problem with bit-mapped images. Vector images allow you to resize and still retain a smooth graphic. This is one of the most powerful tools for creating your own artwork.
- GIF, JPEG, PNG, TIF, LMNOP, X%R#!*N.....HELP!
- Confused by the many different image formats available? Students will discuss the relevant format types and learn when to use which one. Graphics will be drawn in Fireworks and then optimized for use on the Web. The goal is always to get the best quality image with the smallest possible size for fast downloads.
- Fast and Easy Graphic Animations
- Sometimes a simple picture just won't do for your Web site. Do you want to have a little animation for spice? Fireworks is perfectly suited to do animation. Using Frames and Tweening you could draw a graphic in one frame at point A and then copy that graphic Frame to point B and the Tweening feature would create all the needed frames to get from point A to point B.
- I'd like a Slice Please
- If you have a particularly large graphic and you know that download time will be too large, you could try cutting that image into slices to improve the compression rates and thus download faster. You can also use the Slice feature to turn one portion of an image into a trigger for a JavaScript function - Fireworks can even write the JavaScript for you!!
