- XML is short for eXtensible Markup Language, and is a new specification currently under development by the W3C. XML is a scaled down version of SGML, designed especially for Web documents. It adds functionality beyond HTML by enabling web designers to create their own customized tags. In this course you will learn XML basics. Only Microsoft's browser currently supports XML.
